After gaining hands on experience in disaster areas, I have come to the conclusion that one of the most important needs for survivors of the disasters is access to food, clothing, and temporary shelter. Many people are temporarily without work during this time because many businesses and employers are effected as well. This creates a huge financial need for those who are trying to piece their lives back together. Right Side Up Ministries has a vital role to play in the future of these survivors.
In the Bible God gives us specific directions on how to help those in need and what it looks like to Him. He says in Matthew 25:34-40 “”Then the King will say to those on His right hand, ‘Come, you blessed of My Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world: ‘for I was hungry and you gave Me food; I was thirsty and you gave Me drink; I was a stranger and you took Me in; ‘I [was] naked and you clothed Me; I was sick and you visited Me; I was in prison and you came to Me.’ “Then the righteous will answer Him, saying, ‘Lord, when did we see You hungry and feed [You], or thirsty and give [You] drink? ‘When did we see You a stranger and take [You] in, or naked and clothe [You]? ‘Or when did we see You sick, or in prison, and come to You?’ “And the King will answer and say to them, ‘Assuredly, I say to you, inasmuch as you did [it] to one of the least of these My brethren, you did [it] to Me.’”
I can’t help but notice how this scripture refers to those giving to the hungry, thirsty, homeless, and naked. In their time of need, those who are being commended gave to Him who was in need. And when asked when they did this, I find it interesting that God says that if they did it to the least of these His brethren, then they did it for Him. God is telling us that if we want to do for Him then we need to do for them. I love that God does not make it difficult to do stuff for Him, and He always does it by having us be a blessing to others.

This is one more way that Right Side Up Ministries is working at being part of the Biblical church. By reaching out to those in need we are becoming the hands and feet of Jesus on this earth. Alone we can accomplish little, but together we can feed, clothe, water, and shelter the world.
