A Little Vision for 2011

Recently I shared the vision for Right Side Up Ministries in the January Partner Letter. Vision is important to cast because it creates a level of accountability with those who support and partner RSUM. I want share to share it with you here so you can see some things that I am working on for 2011. These are things that are close to my heart and the heart of RSUM.

“Then the LORD answered me and said: “Write the vision And make it plain on tablets, That he may run who reads it.”          (Habakkuk 2:2)

1.        Attain a 501c3 non-profit status for Right Side Up Ministries.

2.       Expand the disaster relief efforts here in the U.S. and overseas.

3.       Create a homeless program to help feed, shower, and clothe the homeless around the United States.

4.       Start a program in Haiti to build homes, feed the hungry and spread the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

5.       Become active in extreme sports outreach, focusing on skateboarding and snowboarding.

6.       Continue to find ways to partner with organizations working on public school campuses.

7.       Attend and complete School of World Missions at Rhema Bible Training Center.

8.       Expand overseas work, including long-term mission work.

9.       Create an online prayer community where people can support and encourage each other through prayer.

10.    Start phase 2 of U.S. travels.

I want to share this in the blog to let you know that RSUM is not a ministry directed by random events happening around the world. I want to show that there is real purpose and thought behind what is done. Here are some specifics that I have started working on:

2.       Expand the disaster relief efforts here in the U.S. and overseas.

  • I have started a project called the Mathew 25 Project. This project is designed to create a benevolence fund to help people affected by disasters around the world. It would provide emergency funds to needy families and individuals to help during the beginning of the recovery process. It would provide funds to buy food, temporary shelter, water, gas, or emergency equipment like generators, etc. It would also be available to help pay house payments, rent, or utility bills. The idea behind this fund is to have a lasting impact in a community.

3.       Create a homeless program to help feed, shower, and clothe the homeless around the United States.

  • I have been praying about working with two ministries that work with the homeless. One of these is the John 3:16 Mission in downtown Tulsa. They are a fully functioning homeless shelter, feeding the hungry and giving shelter to the homeless. They also have a drug addiction program, helping people to break addiction in their life. The other is Holy Joe’s, which is a homeless outreach center in Broken Arrow, OK. They do a weekly outreach at their facility designed to give help and hope to the homeless in their community.

4.       Start a program in Haiti to build homes, feed the hungry and spread the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

  • I am praying about how to best help those in Haiti with a long-term recovery effort. One area that I want to help people is to provide a short-term, no interest loan to help someone start a Tap-Tap business. If you are unaware, a tap-tap is a taxi in Haiti. They are small pickup trucks with modified beds that are used to transport people. Port-au-Prince is a large city and most people rely on tap-taps to get to work, school, or to the store. The vision behind this is to create a long-term solution to one families short-term needs by creating not only a job, but a business that can provide long term income.

6.       Continue to find ways to partner with organizations working on public school campuses.

  • I am committed to help local Christian organizations bring the Gospel to public school campus’. Many people don’t realize that it is legal to preach and teach the Gospel on public school campus’. There are rules, and it is up to the discretion of the local school boards, but it CAN be done! RSUM is currently committed in helping two organizations, Mississippi Gulf Coast Youth for Christ and Face It! Ministries. Both of these organizations have a proven track record of success while working on public school campus’. I have personally worked with both organizations and believe fully in the vision they cast to reach lost teenagers with the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

7.       Attend and complete School of World Missions at Rhema Bible Training Center.

  • I am currently residing in Broken Arrow, OK saving money to attend school in the fall. I have committed to finish this program in May 2012. This will restrict some of the activities of RSUM over the next 16 months, but I believe it will a long-term asset to the ministry and the work that will be done oversees.

9.       Create an online prayer community where people can support and encourage each other through prayer.

  • I have started work on a project called Confess/Pray/Heal. This is  an online community where we can go to find help and comfort through the difficult things we struggle with as Christians. The site is temporary, but I am working to build a functioning site by mid year. There is much more information on the Confess/Pray/Heal website. There is also a twitter you can follow and a blog page you can visit to read about everything from struggles people are facing to scripture that can help set you free from whatever is binding you.

I only highlighted the work that I am currently working on, but I plan to have work being done on all ten of these things by the end of 2011. If you want more information about Right Side Up Ministries, including how to become a partner with RSUM, visit the website @ www.rightsideupministries.org.
