Joplin Relief in July/ August

I’ve been working toward Joplin relief for the past three weeks and have finally hit the point where it is a reality. Upon visiting Joplin to help on two separate one day trips, I knew it was time to get back into the field and start some hands on work again. The last relief effort I was involved in was the spring tornado that ripped through Yazoo City, MS in the spring of 2010. So to say that I am excited is really an understatement. I really cannot explain what it is about disaster areas that appeal to me, but I am hooked. To me there is no better opportunity to show and share the love of Christ than in the middle of a disaster area.

The trip looks like this- July 4-22 will be spent in Joplin, MO working with Abundant Life Church and Service International. It will be three weeks of living in an open community taking “military” showers. The work will be hot and exhausting, but I know God will do some amazing things with this trip.

The week of July 24-30 will be spent in Tulsa, OK for Rhema Camp Meeting 2011. This is an important opportunity to soak up the Word and refuel. So many times, after spending long amounts of time working in different areas, there is no greater way to recover than to spend time receiving from God through others.

The month of August is still open, but I will say this, most of it will be spent in Joplin. There is so much to do there that I could stay there for a year and not slow down. It will be 3-4 weeks more of disaster relief, then back to Tulsa.

September is the beginning of the school year at Rhema and I still plan to attend the 3rd year missions program. This will be an intensive eight month program designed to prepare me for oversees mission work. I look forward to having the opportunity to attend this program.

So, that is what the next few months look like for Right Side Up Ministries.  As you can see, it is a busy time. I could really use your partnership, first in prayer, and also in finances. If you would be interested in helping make sure that the Joplin trip is covered, or if you are interested in sowing seed toward furthering education, please visit the Right Side Up Ministries website. I would like to take a moment to thank you in advance for partnering with RSUM and the work that God is doing through us.
